A wonderfully researched piece, Sonya. I also love those serendipitous discoveries - when we literally stumble into magic. Thanks for introducing me to the world of fado! I learned a similar history studying various types of theatre and just how much these forms of art weave through various stages in a culture's development - and reveal something about a place that one can't simply read about. One has to feel.

I'd love to hear more about that, Meghan. We spent much of our time in Dublin and London chasing down theatre, the latter more commercial, but more new plays than I've seen since we lived in Seattle.

Im reminded of your experience inSpain? when you talked or perhaps just exuded such intention you were irresistible in getting a table at a famous amouse bouche restaurant.

Lovely evocation of fado, music matching your soul.

Oh, yeah. We were such a mess coming out of hiking Montserrat Monastery and I went crazy to the doorman out front because I realized we were at Tickets, who I'd read about. Not just their culinary mastery but the entire creative process. All of this spilled out of me and they gave us a table but only if we would get out of there before the locals arrived. Ha! Such a food-trip. Thanks for reminding me, Carole.
